The article, Leadership, Organizational Learning, and the Successful Integration of Information and Communication Technology in Teaching and Learning, focusses on 15 case study schools to explore how leadership influences organizational learning. This study also determines that schools that implement information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching and learning were more successful. The study found that in the more innovative schools, the leadership is more collaborative, supportive of innovation and risk taking, and inclusive of others. This studied concluded that principles are critical to changing classroom practices and creating a collaborative school environment. The principles were able to create this environment by finding ways for teachers to learn on the job and encouraged the teachers to be instructional leaders. Reference: Sheppard, B. (2003). Showing Leadership in Your School
Multicultural Games Club I created a multicultural games club. The aim for this club is to bring students together where they feel comfortable with their peers to play games. As stated by Godwin-Jones, there are intriguing parallel between gaming and language learning because games tend to encourage communication and cooperation. (Godwin-Jones, 2005). For the most part, the games will be geared to develop their English oral language. I feel that the students will feel more eager and willing to speak and develop their oral language because it is a relaxed and fun setting. Games such as Bingo or Go Fish can work on their number comprehension and visualization of numbers, scrabble can work on their spelling and Hedbanz can work on their oral language. Because this games club is a very casual setting where there are other students who are learning English, students will feel more comfortable talking and socializing with their peers. I have attached the poster that I created to hang around the school for publicity. I will also add the information for the club to the morning announcements. Also, because my target audience are ELL student, I will provide the ELL teacher with a poster so that she can encourage the students to come. I will ask two students from the Student Leadership Club to come and help me. I will get these two students to set up that games from me and help the ELL students with the rules and show them how to play the game. The first few weeks of the games club, all students will play the same game. This will help keep things organized until the students know the rules to most of the games. I will begin will a simple game such as Go Fish and work our way up to more complex games such as scrabble. I hope that eventually, the students will be able to individually pick a game they would like to play with their peers. This club will begin the week after spring break. Depending on the popularity of it, I may also do it on Thursdays at lunch and separate the days into primary and intermediate students.
